Description
Isolate Your Alpaca’s True Genetic Potential
Our 3 Point Grid Test – Genetic Focus is the ultimate tool for serious breeders dedicated to precise herd improvement. While a standard fibre test provides excellent baseline data, standard variation measurements (Standard Deviation or SD) incorporate both genetic influences and environmental factors (such as nutrition or climate).
The “SD Across” Advantage: This advanced testing option utilizes recent fibre testing technology to measure ‘SD Across’. This specific measurement isolates the genetic influences of fibre diameter variability from the variation caused by environmental factors. In fact, SD Across is ranked as the absolute #1 priority trait for herd improvement programs aimed at fleece quality.
How It Works:
To accurately monitor this isolated genetic variation across the entire fleece, this test requires three separate samples from a single alpaca, taken from the following locations:
The shoulder
The midside
The hip (or rump)
Why Choose the Genetic Focus Test? By stripping away the environmental “noise” that can affect standard SD readings, the SD Across measurement gives you the clearest possible picture of the genetics your sire or dam will actually pass on to their progeny. Low variability increases the predictability of average diameter in subsequent generations, allowing you to make highly strategic, confident breeding decisions.
⚠️ Important Requirements for Genetic Focus Testing:
- Samples must be approximately the width of three fingers.
- You must provide the following details with your sample: sex, breed (huacaya or suri), fleece colour, and fleece year (e.g., 1st year, 2nd year).
